Selly Green Floor PlanCrèche & Holiday ClubIn our crèche & Holiday Club as well as caring for children's natural and emotional needs we try to impart a love of nature and a lifestyle of minimizing waste. For example we go on trips out by bicycle, take glass to the bottle bank and study the wildlife that lives around us in our wildlife pond, wild birds feeding station and nesting boxes. In the summer holidays we did a project on habitats with trips by train, bus and bike to see, woodland, marsh, meadow and stream. Their favourite was a bug hut with the park rangers. Canteen/Roof GardenOur canteen has a special area for parents to dine with their children. In the spring of 2000 we built a garden on the roof of our canteen, we decided we didn't want just grass so we planted selected varieties of alpines instead. Since building our roof garden and pond area we have noticed an increase in birds, bees, hover flies, dragon flies, may flies, butterflies and spiders. Forklift GarageOur forklift storage and maintenance area. Large Items Storage AreaWe store our bulk product here until it is needed. OfficeIn our office we have recently upgraded the computer network to help us work and answer queries even more efficiently. As our office equipment needs replacing we try to get energy efficient models and seperate colour inks in our printer. We have added a new large window into our office. What a great view! Small Items Stock AreaProducts from 60 ml to 10L are stored here waiting to be ordered. We keep stock so we can have a short lead time between ordering and delivery. Packaging Storage AreaHere we store everything (except the actual soaps) e.g. bottles, labels, boxes, etc. Large Items Filling StationsWe fill larger sizes of bottles and buckets here. Larger sizes are over 10L. Packaging StationsSmall items are packed into boxes usually for retail or mail order. Bicycle StorageWe use bicycles to go to the bank, do small local deliveries, Crèche & Holiday Club outings and in the good weather organise bicycle rides along the River Rea cycle route. Raised Pond/Marsh Plants & AviaryA raised pond was built in the spring of 1999 using reclaimed York paving and is already very well established. It has a variety of bog plants, shallow water for tadpoles and breeding small fish and deeper water for larger fish. In the autumn of 1998 a good sized aviary was build for Chinese quail and canaries with indoor nesting and outdoor flight area. We also have wild bird feeding station with fresh water to drink and wash in, peanuts and selected wild bird seeds. Also a few bird nesting boxes around the site one of which this year housed a pair of blue tits with young. This area is lovely to sit in during breaks in the summer or look out at it through the canteen windows during the colder weather. In 2003 we added a water butt system to our gutters to collect rain water for toping up the pond and watering critical plants during long dry spells. Can you spot it in the picture on the right? We also have planters squeezed into every spare gap. Goods InwardsThis is where we store goods (e.g. bottles, labels, etc.) when they first arrive. Goods OutwardsOnce an order is ready to be delivered to a customer it is put in this section with its paper work. Overflow AreaThis area changes its usage depending on what is needed most, usually either large item storage or more packaging stations. Small Items Filling StationsThis is where we fill all the small bottles, tubs and tubes from 60ml to 10L. |
